In a robot’s body: What we learned from embodiment experiments

Laura Aymerich-Franch

Robot embodiment is a form of mediated embodiment recently emerged which follows similar principles than those used in virtual reality to induce a sense of embodiment of the avatar body. I will explain how we create this illusion in the laboratory. Also, I will introduce the most outstanding findings that we have obtained regarding the psychological, behavioral, and moral consequences of being embodied in a humanoid robot, from experiencing the body of the robot as one’s own to feeling responsible when the robot avatar misbehaves.
